Matriculation examination was about to knock the door of students of Grade X. But Liza has been absenting consecutively for 15 days. Prismith used to look at her seat, but finding it empty he would feel despair. He used to look at the door continuously for her arrival until it would be closed after teacher’s entrance. He used to feel as if Liza would knock the door and enter the room. He even thought if he goes to open the door and let it remain open she would come for sure. However, these were the things only in his imagination. Neither the door was opened nor she came.
He was the only one to notice her absence in the class. Others had nothing to do with her presence. He wanted to see her so much that even her glance would make him feel better. Now, he became unable to concentrate in his class as well. Prismith and Christina asked him anything wrong happened to him lately; he would just avoid them and their questions. He wanted to have her in the room, not only because he loved her but also because he was worried that she would spoil her upcoming Matriculation.
“Did anyone say something to her? Did someone scold her? I always used to find her alone. Did she feel so lonely?” He kept on thinking about the reasons for her absence.
“Why didn’t I become friends with her before? Will she not come to school from now on? Will she be gone before I get to express my feelings for her? Will I even be able to see her again?” He even started blaming himself.
He began thinking plans to find out the reasons for her absence He tried to find out her whereabouts from Santosh, class monitor, but he answered that he also doesn’t know. Even on his way to school and way back to home, he used to roam here and there; he believed he might notice her somewhere if he kept on trying. He started causing many accidents in recognizing her as well. There were many times when he would run happily (sometimes angrily) towards girls resembling her but would be sad finding a different person. He even started doing things he never did before. He started listening to girls’ chitchat, thinking he might get some info from them. He used to worry if she was safe and doing well. He also visited temples to pray for her safety and wished she would come back again.
One fine morning, he was doing physical exercises in Sankha Park. He was running, dribbling, stretching his arms and legs, doing push-ups, pull ups and many other activities. He saw a girl coming towards him from a distance. He thought it might be an illusion of her he had been seeing since many days. But she came to him and said hello. He was so astonished to hear that. He even pinched himself to know it wasn’t a dream after all. He felt so happy that he nearly cried. He said to himself that one sided love is really hurtful.
They sat together on a bench and started talking.
“Where have you been? How are you? Why didn’t you come to school? You know matric examination is approaching? Are you sick? Are you doing well? Did you go to the hospital for treatment? Did you write an application for leave?” He started roaring at her with showers of questions. Obviously, he would do so as he was so desperate to see her.
Liza was pulled aback with his questions.
“Sorry, I was just curious too much.” He makes up with her.
” I am fine and I am doing good. The only reason I had been absenting school is that I transferred to another school.” She replies.
“Oh! Really? But why?” He was relieved to hear she was doing well. but the painful part was she didn’t know how much he missed her and how much he liked her. Now he won’t be seeing her more in the class, he looked sadder.
“It’s just that my mom wanted me to transfer.”
“Hmm. can I ask for your phone number if you don’t mind?”
“I’d like to but I don’t have a mobile now. My mom told me she would give it back to me after I pass SEE”
“Oh, I see. How about your email id? You must have one, right?”
“Yes, I do have it. You can contact me at lizahere@ymail.com”
“Thanks, and do contact me at prismith@gmail.com “
And they parted just like that getting each other’s contact information. Prismith was happy that he got to see her once again and hoped he would see her every day in the morning in the same park. Liza was also happy to find that there was someone who noticed her absence and missed her.Next
